There’s a lot Zoey would like to forget. Like how her father has knocked up his twenty-four-year old girlfriend. Like Zoey’s fear that the whole town will find out about her mom’s nervous breakdown. Like darkly handsome bad boy Doug taunting her at school. With her life about to become a complete mess, Zoey fights back the only way she knows how, using her famous attention to detail to make sure she’s the perfect daughter, the perfect student, and the perfect girlfriend to ultra-popular football player Brandon.

But then Zoey is in a car crash, and the next day there’s one thing she can’t remember at all—the entire night before. Did she go parking with Brandon, like she planned? And if so, why does it seem like Brandon is avoiding her? And why is Doug—of all people—suddenly acting as if something significant happened between the two of them? Zoey dimly remembers Doug pulling her from the wreck, but he keeps referring to what happened that night as if it was more, and it terrifies Zoey to admit how much is a blank to her. Controlled, meticulous Zoey is quickly losing her grip on the all-important details of her life—a life that seems strangely empty of Brandon, and strangely full of Doug.

This book was very intense. Wonderful writing intertwined with a deliciously sexy story. And when I say sexy, I mean romantically erotic. A few scenes go beyond our regular dose of sexuality in YA books. Romantic content is intensely described yet still not offensive or dirty. I liked it a lot, but sure enough, not everyone will be pleased with this irregularity. Anyhow, the romance was delightful and the main boy, Doug was very yummy and very swoon worthy.

On the other hand, as usual it seems, I had trouble with the female lead. I wonder why female leads tend to be extremely out going and brave or... incredibly stupid. Zoey seems to be quite a normal girl, very likable, except when she goes kind of delusional about a guy who could not care less. Seriously, she thinks she has a "boyfriend" just because she had a one night stand with the biggest player in history. Worst part is she knows he is a player and still she convinces herself that for her, he will be different. Even worst than all this is that it actually happens in real life. Blind girls like that, I mean. Bottom line is it was frustrating to read about her insistence and not be able to step into the book and slap her so she would wake up.

But I really enjoyed all other parts of the plot. She portrays very well what its like to be on a team in school and how well you know all your teammates even if they're not your actual "friends". I loved that part.

Overall I really enjoyed this book, I fell head over heels for Doug and anyway, it was really hard to put down. If you're looking for a very sexy realistic romance this will leave you more than pleased! 4.5!

  2. Thanks for the honest response. I'm really looking forward to this one so glad to hear you liked it overall. But I agree w/ you on some female leads in contemporary YA these days...sometimes they work for me, sometimes they annoy greatly. Interested to see how I feel about Zoey. And Doug. ;)
