The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore
The Oscars might as well thank book industry as a whole. I mean, yesterday was THE day to prove that great stories are majorly found in books. Hugo, Harry Potter, The Help, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and so on. I won't even mention the whole no-mention-to-Brian Selznick debacle that the YA twitterverse was ranting about yesterday. Or, well, I guess I just mentioned it.
But I must admit my ignorance when it came to The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore written by William Joyce and directed by him and Brandon Oldenburg. I've only recently gotten involved with all the picture book industry since I mad to organize my daughter's school book fair. Therefore, I had not heard of this book or this short film before last night. Fortunately, we all know how easily ignorance is mended in these Googleian times.
If you want to watch this fantastic now Oscar-winning animated short film, that is also a picture book (and in iPad interactive app) find it below. The picture book is on Goodreads and Amazon, and if anyone knows info on how to purchase the film let me know.

Thanks so much for sharing this short film here. I was intrigued by the clips I saw of it on the Oscars, and my seven-year-old and I just happily watched it together on your site. I'll have to look for the book.
ReplyDeleteGreat recommendation! My daughter will love the book and I can't wait to show her the film.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
