YA Historical Fiction Challenge 2012

I'm hosting again this challenge on 2012! I can't believe it's been a year already. I will have to do things a little different this year, but hopefully better too. I will have exclusive giveaways for participants during the year. Spread the word! (as always, feel free to grab the image as button)

Historical fiction: tells a story that is set in the past. That setting is usually real and drawn from history, and often contains actual historical persons, but the principal characters tend to be fictional. Writers of stories in this genre, while penning fiction, attempt to capture the spirit, manners, and social conditions of the persons or time(s) presented in the story, with due attention paid to period detail and fidelity. 1. Yes! I'm SO glad you're doing this challenge again. I've been sort of stalking your blog waiting to see if you were going to host it again :) I will definitely participate! (I'll have my post up later this month). Thank you!

    3. My post will be up on Sunday. I already know two of the books I'm going to do. Shadows of St. Louis by Leslie DuBois due out Feb. 2012 and Bright Young Things by Anna Goldberson. Oh, does it count as historical if it took place four years ago? Leslie DuBois has another book that is set in 2008 during the Obama election.

    5. I'm definitely doing this challenge? Adding on to what Priscilla is asking, how long ago is "historial"?

    6. I have just been reading historical novels as a background to writing again. I read Janet Lunn's The Hollow Tree about the loyalists coming to Canada after 1776.
Another book I read was Marianne Brandis Rebellion Both are excellent.
I wrote a historical novel in 201 called An Unexpected Friendship: Amherstburg 1846 which brings in the 1838 rebellion and freedom for slevaes arriving at the port of Amherstburg

    7. I signed up for level 3. I hope I can find 15 new books to read. YA HF is my favorite genre.

    8. I guess that would count as historical fiction if it's indeed fiction and not a memoir or non-fic. I can't answer how long ago, I suppose that if it's a historical event say, 9/11 for example I'll count it :)

    11. Hi, just wondering, is there a place to post reviews for this?

      ReplyDelete
    12. I'd love to sign up. Are we supposed to be reviewing the books as we read them, or just making a blog post listing them?
