Top Ten Books I Had VERY Strong Emotions About

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the Broke and the Bookish.

1. By the Time You Read This I'll Be Dead by Julie Anne Peters. It's a nauseatingly raw and terribly amazing story. Pulls your heart out and then this heavenly perfect guy that puts it back together. Just perfect.

2. Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta. This is my favorite book in the planet. I try not to say a whole lot about this book because once I start I can't shut up. But man, when I read the last scene, I swear my heart literally wrinkled. It's an emotion I don't think I'll ever feel again. So many parts are engraved in my memory (Jonah's confession, the bottled-up expression scene, the shot...). I even have the book displayed on top of my bed. Okay, fine, I'll stop now.

3. Forbidden by Tabitha Zusuma. Um, it's about incest! So yeah, this one is bound to shake up your feelings. And geez, if those steamy sex scenes don't stir you up, I think you're dead (some of the best written sex scenes in YA, btw).

4. Stay With Me by Paul Griffin. Oh, gosh. This one is amazingly heartbreaking and perfect it just makes me want cry right now.

5. Evermore. I will be honest. I dont think I've said this before here. This was complete torture. There's nothing original about it and I strongly believe the author wrote it while she had to pee. It feels hurried and crammed up and wow, just, wow. How people have actually loved it is beyond me.

6. The Hollow. I want to laugh thinking about this book. I swear, I had such a bad experience (very few of you will remember) with this one. It's as boring as if I wrote down everything I do during a day. Maybe worse, I'm probably more interesting. My respects to those of you who finished it: you people have the gift of endless patience.

7. Split by Swati Avasthi. This is amazing. It's also about physical abuse. Very raw. I LOVED it but... It brought back memories for me. 'Nough said.

8. Anna & the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. I think this was the first book in my life that had me smiling the whole time! I was in a weird happy fog during the whole book, that strangely returns every time I reread it.

9. The Exiled Queen by Cinda Williams Chima. I've loved every book in this series but this one just has so much emotion going on everywhere and the reader is so engaged and so expectant that to me it stands out from the others.

10. Grafitti Moon by Cath Crowley. I adore this book. It's YA perfection along with some others on this list. But what made it so special for me was the setting. I know it's set in Australia and I've never been, but it must look exactly like my city (Caracas, Venezuela) because I felt at home. You can tell it's nothing like America. It was quite unbelievable for me to finally find a book that resembled my teen experience a little.

  1. ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS~~ Ah, it's just love <3 Lola and the Boy Next Door is the Perkins novel that made it to my list though.

I've seen Forbidden on quite a few people's lists! It must be a really great tear jerker!

Your comment on Alyson Noel and her bladder was hilarious! xD

  6. I haven't read any of these books...yet! But I heard Anna and the French Kiss is amazing and so is Forbidden.

I definitely have to check out Jellicoe Road soon!

Really interesting list. And I had no idea The Hollow was so lackluster.

  7. I almost include the Exiled Queen on my list as I loved this series too. Many of the other books on your list I still need to read, but I should have added the whole Evermore series (or at least the first three I read) as I really really detested them and finally refused to read anymore after the third one. Great list!

  13. I completely agree with you on Evermore that book was horrible and the guy was a total creep in fact the only part I really liked in this book was when she was telling him to go away. I recently tried to read The Hollow but I couldn't do it because I kept falling asleep.

  14. Wait, wait, you're in Caracas? If English is your second language, you're perfectly bilingual. My family is Colombian, but my cousins are Venezuelan. I haven't been in more than a decade...

Anyhow, I love your list. I recently finished "Graffiti Moon" on Netgalley and thought it was amazing. I also loved "Anna" and isn't "Jellicoe Road" on everyone's bedside table? Jonah Griggs -- swoon!

  15. Bahahaha! You can't fool me, Sab. I know you are secretly still in love with Damen (or Damien...can't remember how to spell it), wanting to bare all his little immortal spawns!
